Agency Purpose

The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is an independent statutory authority established by the Australian Government to maintain an impartial and independent electoral system for eligible voters through active electoral roll management, efficient delivery of polling services, and targeted education and public awareness programs.

The Team

Elector and Roll Services sits within the Delivery and Support Branch and is responsible for managing the key operational aspects of the program to keep almost 17 million Australians correctly enrolled on the Australian Electoral Roll.  The team works very closely with the IT section and other areas of the AEC to ensure that the systems are fit for purpose for the delivery of the program.

The Section also contains other teams who are responsible for key election delivery projects such as postal voting, contact centre and certified list scanning and it is expected that the successful applicant will have an involvement in those projects, particularly at election time.


To excel you’ll have:

  • The ability to work closely with a range of stakeholders, making sound judgements and balancing various priorities;
  • The ability to work closely with those who manage our IT systems to ensure the data is used effectively and in accordance with electoral and privacy legislation;
  • A demonstrated ability to work with key private and public sector suppliers, ensuring that timeframes are met and the contract is managed;
  • An ability to assist in the testing of system improvements and actively identify and recommend improvements to systems and processes.
  • High level integrity to ensure the AEC’s requirements regarding privacy of elector data is upheld.
